Bruce Springsteen really is The Boss. Born on September 23, 1949, in New Jersey, the legendary rocker has become an American icon, known for his poetic storytelling, gravelly voice, and electrifying live shows. Inspired early on by artists like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, Bruce picked up his first guitar at age 15 and started recording music in the late 1960s. His rise to fame came in the ’70s after forming the E Street Band, and the rest is rock history. With a catalog full of hits like “Born to Run,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “No Surrender,” and “Born in the U.S.A.,” Springsteen has won 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and even a Special Tony Award for Springsteen on Broadway.
Now in his 70s, Bruce continues to tour and record—and he’s about to be immortalized on the big screen. A biopic titled Deliver Me From Nowhere is in the works, with Jeremy Allen White set to portray him during the making of his 1982 album Nebraska.
Offstage, Bruce has been married to E Street Band member Patti Scialfa since 1991, and they share three children, including Olympic equestrian Jessica Springsteen.
