The 2022 U.S. Open is underway and Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal officially begins his quest for a five-time title Tuesday evening.

Nadal will be playing in his debut U.S. Open in three years and he's going face-to-face with one of Australia's top players.

No. second seed Nadal will meet the world's No. 2 seed Rinky Hijikata on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET in Arthur Ashe Stadium for the opening match of the championship. 

He last played in Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean National Tennis Center in the year 2019 when he won the fourth U.S. Open title.

Nadal, 36 years old Nadal was ranked the world's No. 1 for 209 consecutive weeks and was ranked as the year's end No. one five times during his career.

Nadal has won the record 22 Grand Slam men's singles titles which is an all-time record. He also won the record-breaking fourteen French Open titles.

Nadal has won the record-breaking 92 ATP singles titles and is among the only two players to have won his Career Golden Slam in singles.

Hijikata is an Australian-Japanese tennis player that has made an ATP major draw debut during the 2022 Melbourne Summer Set 1. 

The 21-year-old tennis player took on the world No. 1. Daniil Medvedev at Los Cabos in August and is currently ranked as No. 198.
