Salman Rushdie was assaulted on stage just before he gave a talk in the western region of New York and his agent has released a gruelling information on his health.

The Booker Prize-winning author, who is 75 years old, was about to deliver an interview in the Chautauqua Institution when a suspect ran onto the stage and slayed Rushdie as well as the interviewer.

The interviewer sustained only a minor head injury, and Rushdie's injury was more severe. He was transported to the hospital after sustaining an apparent wound on the neck.

Rushdie's Agent Andrew Wylie gave an update to The New York Times on Friday night.

"The report is not encouraging," the agent said adding the fact that Rushdie was on a ventilator and is unable to speak. He was wounded in the abdomen and neck.

The statement continued to say that Salman is likely to lose one eye, the muscle nerves of the arm cut the liver of his victim was cut and damaged.
