Roseanne Barr was born on November 3, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah, as the eldest of four children raised in a Jewish family. She first gained fame as a stand-up comedian and later starred in the sitcom Roseanne, which ran from 1988 to 1997. The show rebooted in 2018 but was canceled after Barr posted a tweet comparing former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett to characters from “Planet of the Apes” and the “Muslim Brotherhood.” Barr apologized, saying the tweet was made in “bad taste” and attributed some of her behavior to Ambien.
“It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting — it was memorial day too — I went 2 far & do not want it defended,” Barr said at the time.
In September 2025, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely after host Jimmy Kimmel made remarks about the shooter of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He suggested that political forces were trying to “score points” by mischaracterizing the killer’s political views, remarks that drew sharp criticism from conservatives and pressure from the FCC.
Barr responded to the situation by rejecting comparisons between her firing and Kimmel’s suspension. On X, she posted, “They aren’t the same. I wasn’t fired for lying I was fired for telling the truth about the Iran deal and slandered into oblivion. This will still be worse for our side than theirs. Kimmel will get an entire PR tour to clear his name with the backing of all media.”
