Awards season has officially commenced in Hollywood! The Palm Springs International Film Festival took place on January 3, 2026, at the Palm Springs Convention Center in California. And while several celebrities were there to accept pretigious awards, only one was not present: Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor — who appeared virtually to accept his Desert Palm Achievement Award — was stranded in St. Barts due to air restrictions that affected Southern California airports that day.
“Original films are harder to make and harder to protect, but movies still matter, not content, but cinema,” Leo said in his acceptance speech that was shown on screen. “Stories made by people meant to be shared in a dark room, in a communal experience. Thank you for believing in this work, and thank you for believing in the movies.”
