Since stepping into the WWE ring in 2002, John Cena rose to become one of the most recognizable and influential figures in sports entertainment history. Often compared to legends like The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Cena broke out after adopting his “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona — a gimmick that even led to a platinum-selling rap album in 2005. Over the next decade and a half, he became synonymous with WWE, winning multiple world championships, headlining marquee events, and serving as the face of the company.
As Cena’s in-ring schedule slowed beginning in 2017, his career outside the ring surged. He transitioned to Hollywood with early roles in The Marine (2006) and 12 Rounds (2009), before scoring a mainstream breakout with his comedic turn in Trainwreck (2015). Since then, he’s built an impressive film and TV résumé with projects like Daddy’s Home, Blockers, Bumblebee, Fast & Furious 9, and HBO’s Peacemaker.
In December 2025, Cena officially closed the final chapter of his wrestling career after competing in his last WWE match, bringing an emotional end to his 23-year run with the company. While his days as an active competitor are now behind him, Cena’s legacy as one of WWE’s greatest Superstars — and one of its most successful crossover stars — remains firmly intact.
