Mel Owens is on a search for love in the upcoming second season of The Golden Bachelor. ABC announced Mel’s casting in April 2025, and naturally, fans were dying to know more about the former NFL player — especially since he was married for a long time to his first wife.
Per Mel’s ABC bio, the “devoted dad” is “ready to rediscover a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple.”
“As the Golden Bachelor, he’s eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years,” ABC said about Mel.

Mel is best known for his football career with the Los Angeles Rams. From 1981 through 1989, he was a linebacker for the team. After he retired from the sport, Mel worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch. He later attended the University of California at San Francisco, where he obtained his Juris Doctorate, and he became a founding partner at the Namanny, Byrne & Owens law firm.
According to court documents viewed by News47.us, Mel’s former wife is Fabiana Pimentel. She filed for divorce from Mel in February 2020.
