‘Severance’ Season 2 Finale Explained: A Breakdown of What Happened

Everyone knows that Severance is a twisted and psychologically thrilling series that flips the lens on the American workplace — even those who haven’t watched the show yet. In episode 10 of season 2, titled “Cold Harbor,” viewers were given a more violent and dramatic experience inside Lumon, which director Ben Stiller acknowledged.

“I think there’s a lot of questions that are posed, and that’s also what I liked about the ending moment in how Elisabeth McGowan Dan [Erickson] wrote it,” Ben told The Hollywood Reporter in a March 2025 interview. “When we go to that freeze frame and we go to red — which we haven’t ever had that color, the blood being the first time — but to me, it’s sort of a shift of, okay, we’re going into another mode here. This is a lot darker and more dystopian than we’ve seen.”

The season 2 finale ends with Mark S. (played by Adam Scott) killing Mr. Drummond (played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) with a gun while switching from his innie to his outie in the Lumon elevator. Outie Mark awakens in a ton of blood gushing from Drummond’s throat, while Innie Mark gets through a major fight with Drummond upstairs.
