The music industry lost one of its most influential figures. Legendary record producer and music executive Clive Davis died at the age of 94 on June 22, 2026. Before becoming one of the most powerful executives in the music business, Davis studied at New York University and later graduated from Harvard Law School. He joined Columbia Records’ legal department in 1960 and quickly climbed the corporate ladder.
By 1967, he had become the president of Columbia Records. It was then that he began reshaping the label’s artist roster.
Davis was known for his extraordinary ability to spot talent. Throughout his career, he signed or helped artists including Houston and Springsteen. He later played a key role in the success of many other chart-topping performers, including Kelly Clarkson.
After leaving Columbia Records in the 1970s, Davis founded Arista Records, which became one of the most successful labels in the industry.
Decades later, he launched J Records, which solidified his reputation as a visionary executive.
