A-lister Brooke Shields has been a Hollywood fixture for decades, growing up in the spotlight and evolving from child model to actress, author, and entrepreneur. The daughter of actress and socialite Teri Shields, Brooke began modeling before her first birthday and quickly became one of the most recognizable young faces in entertainment. Her breakout role in the controversial 1978 film Pretty Baby launched her to international fame while she was still a child.
By 1980, Brooke had become the youngest person ever to appear on the cover of Vogue at just 14 years old. Around the same time, she starred in now-iconic Calvin Klein campaigns and appeared in films like The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love, cementing her status as one of the biggest young stars of the era. Despite her fame, Brooke stepped away from Hollywood in the early 1980s to attend Princeton University, where she earned a degree in Romance Languages.
Brooke was back and bolder than ever by the mid-90s with her show Suddenly Susan. The NBC sitcom ran from 1996 to 2000, and earned two Golden Globe nominations for the part. After another extended hiatus, Brooke had a major recurring role on the 19th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2017-18).
Brooke’s life and career were later explored in the 2023 documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields. She also released her 2025 memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, in which she opened up about aging in Hollywood and her personal experiences navigating fame and the entertainment industry.
