Haliey Welch, a.k.a “Hawk Tuah Girl,” is now in the cryptocurrency sphere. After skyrocketing to stardom on social media — all thanks to that viral TikTok video — Haliey’s personal brand is reaching new heights. Most recently, she spoke with Fortune about her venture into crypto.
So, did Haliey launch a crypto coin? Get the latest on the news, below.
In December 2024, Haliey started a meme coin called HAWK. While speaking with Fortune that month, Haliey’s manager, Jonnie Forster, pointed out that they “don’t want to break securities laws” and “would say that we’re almost, like, tokenizing, in a sense, Hailey’s fan base.”

However, Haliey also emphasized that her meme coin is “not just a cash grab” for her brand. Initially, the Internet personality had her doubts about crypto, but after learning more about it, she thought it would be a “really good thing” for her and a “good way to interact with [her] fans.”
A meme coin is a form of cryptocurrency that was inspired by a meme or an online joke. With popular social media trends and various internet personalities gaining attention, a meme coin can become successful with endorsements and widespread attention. A community of fans, per se, can rally around a meme coin depending on who or what inspired it. And if a fan-favorite social media star launches a coin, their fans should come in clutch — but a coin’s success is never a guarantee.
According to Coinbase, a meme coin is considered risky and even “volatile,” though sometimes, a coin might be launched as a lighthearted joke.
