Mel B, born Melanie Brown on May 29, 1975, in Leeds, England, rose to international fame in the 1990s as Scary Spice, one-fifth of the iconic girl group the Spice Girls. Alongside fellow members Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton, she helped turn the group into a global phenomenon with hits including “Wannabe,” “Say You’ll Be There” and “Spice Up Your Life.”
Following the Spice Girls’ success, Mel B launched a solo music career and scored a hit with “I Want You Back,” featuring Missy Elliott, which reached No. 1 in the U.K. She later released the albums Hot and L.A. State of Mind while also expanding her career into television. Over the years, Mel B has served as a judge on The X Factor, America’s Got Talent, The Masked Singer Australia and other reality competition series.
In addition to her work in music and television, Mel B is an actress, author and advocate for domestic abuse survivors. She reunited with the Spice Girls for the group’s successful 2019 stadium tour and has remained involved in discussions about future Spice Girls projects.
