Mike’s wife is Diana Ditka, born Diana Trantham. She largely kept out of the public eye during her husband’s coaching career, even as the Ditka name became a fixture across Chicago. The couple shared a life that stretched from the city’s sidelines to Florida and back again, and Diana was there for every move.
When the family announced Mike’s death, the statement began by honoring him as a husband first, per TMZ.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mike Ditka.”
Diana and Mike tied the knot on July 8, 1977, and they were married for more than 49 years. She married him five years before he took over as head coach of the Bears, so she lived through the whole ride with him, from the team’s famous 1985 season and Super Bowl XX victory to his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction in 1988.
After their Chicago restaurant closed in 2020, the couple spent a few years living in Florida. They returned to Chicago in 2024, settling back into the same apartment complex they had called home before heading south.
